West Sacramento Election Night: Becerra Campaign Prepares Watch Party as Governor Votes Are Counted

WEST SACRAMENTO — November 3, 2026. A television election-night report showed reporters and campaign personnel gathering in West Sacramento for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra’s watch party as California prepared to count votes in the governor’s race. Reporter Jenny Hudd described a substantial media presence before the event opened more broadly to attendees.

What was confirmed on camera?

The reporter said the timing of Becerra’s remarks had not yet been announced and that an appearance by Gov. Gavin Newsom was only a possibility, not a confirmed plan. Becerra grew up in Sacramento and attended C.K. McClatchy High School, giving the Sacramento region personal significance for his campaign.

The report discussed a UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies / Los Angeles Times survey that measured support at 61% for Becerra and 34% for Republican Steve Hilton among likely voters. Those figures are a pre-election poll, not election results. No winner had been certified at the time of the report.

Why the location matters

West Sacramento is in Yolo County, across the Sacramento River from the state capital. The event’s location should therefore be associated with West Sacramento and Yolo County coverage, rather than incorrectly labeled a Sacramento County event.
